I noticed his formula years ago and while Acrimony is kinda outside that formula the precedent is clear- Tyler Perry profits off villainizing the trauma of black women, mimicking our more positive and endearing attributes via Madea (i love that you pointed out he doesn’t oft let plus sized black women tell their own stories. Especially not darker skinned ones), and often positions black men as the “redeemers” or “saviors” of that trauma. It’s disgusting, it’s racialized sexism, it’s buffoonery, it’s diminutive, and I don’t understand why we allow and support this.
